Korea Foreign School is in session from 8:15 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. on regular school days. On Friday, classes conclude at 13:15 p.m. with dismissal from 13:15-13:30 p.m. due to teachers Professional Development Schedule.

There are about 180 days in a typical school year, which is divided into two semesters with the first beginning in mid-August and the second being started in January, following Winter Break. The second semester and school year ends in the beginning of June.

Korea Foreign School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (SMOE). KFS has been examined extensively and the Korean Government has given the school the education license to operate an international school. The implication of this is that the standard of education is guaranteed and our students will be able to go to any other Korean schools or certified international school around the world. At the same time, it facilitates their entrance into universities throughout the world, as it is a guarantee of their high level of English proficiency and Western style of learning. Korea Foreign School is accredited by WASC, also an IB World School and Cambridge International School. While these agencies have certain guidelines and policies, ultimately it is the school, which must develop the appropriate curriculum for both the needs of our community and the standards of those organizations, and this is typical of most international schools around the world. We offer the IB PYP Curriculum (Primary Years Programme) from the Grade 1 to Grade 5, Cambridge Curriculum in Grades 6 – 12.

As a WASC accredited school and IB PYP and Cambridge International school, we are committed to continuous improvement and professional development. The Friday afternoon early-release days provide dedicated time for collaboration, staff development, unit planning and training.

Most students use our school bus services. However, some parents drive their children to school themselves, but parking might be problem.

All teachers apply to Korea Foreign School through a rigorous application process. Applicants must show previous teaching experience, display knowledge of curriculum, assessment, and classroom management procedures, and command of the English language. Potential teachers must also complete interview and evaluation procedures conducted by hiring committee in the leadership of the Principal. All of our teachers possess a minimum of a four year Bachelor’s degree, and many hold supplemental certificates from professional development, or have completed their Masters degrees. We offer Language Support Services to any student enrolled at Korea Foreign School. All students who apply to KFS take an English Proficiency Exam. Once they are accepted, all students who do not speak English as their first language are subject to the WIDA MODEL (Measure for developing the English Language) test. The WIDA MODEL is designed to determine if your student needs extra language support services provided by KFS. KFS has two programs tailored specifically for English language learners (ELL); ELL Intensive classes, and ELL in class learning support. ELL stands for English Language Learners and involves the acquisition of English by non-native speakers. Depending on your child’s WIDA MODEL score, they may be eligible for these services. Yes, we do. We offer a wide variety of Extracurricular Activities. Our after school activities are twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-3:45, where teachers are responsible for leading the activities. Students and parents are able to select different activities . At the end of the semester, students are able to switch to new after school activities to give the opportunity to participate in new classes.

Yes, we have lunch and snack served every day. KFS provides high quality healthy Korean and Western snack and lunch in the cafeteria. Students also receive morning snack. During lunch, students are able to choose from at least three food groups, and all meals are prepared fresh daily by our trained kitchen staff. If parents would rather provide a packed lunch, then they can do so. Snacks and lunch are always closely monitored by teaching staff. Yes, we believe school uniforms encourage a sense of loyalty and responsibility within the school. It also discourages competition in types of clothing and provides a more equitable climate and learning environment in the school. Korea Foreign School believes that qualified students who desire an education should not be denied that opportunity because of economic hardship. Thus, we are proud to offer financial aid (for new and existing Korea Foreign School families) that helps us provide a balanced school community and at the same time keep the school financially healthy. Please note that financial aid application for new families can only be processed if the student’s admissions application is complete.

Tuition Assistance is available beginning in 1st grade. The student application fee is waived for families applying for financial aid.

Financial aid awards are considered based completion of the Financial Aid Application by the deadline as well as submission of required financial information.
