About RIS

Rainbow International School is the non-profit private day-school. Located in Seoul, South Korea, Korea Foreign School opened its doors to students in September, 2007. KFS is a nondenominational school which proudly represents students from more than 20 different countries. Its multicultural atmosphere is both warm and friendly.

The students follow a Programme of Inquiry from grades 1 to 5 that develops skills across all subjects by exploring real global issues which culminates in the PYP exhibition


The MYP students take part in a challenging, inquiry based framework that encourages students to make connections through subjects and to the real world. The programme includes community projects throughout, culminating in a personal project during their final year.

There are about 180 days in a typical school year, which is divided into three semesters (trimesters) with the first trimester beginning in mid-August, the second beginning in November and the third beginning in March, and includes a 3 week winter and 1 week spring break. For the 2016/2017 school year, school began August 16, 2016 and will end June 9, 2017. Please click here to view our academic calendar.

Lessons start at 8:30 am. The academic day in school finishes at 15:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. School finishes at 1:15 on Wednesdays due to teachers Professional Development Schedule. Please click here to view the school`s daily timetable.

Rainbow International School is currently a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and the Middle Years Programme. We offer the IB PYP Curriculum (Primary Years Programme) from the Grade 1 to Grade 5, IB MYP Curriculum (Middle Years Programme) in Grades 6 – 8.

RIS is jointly accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (SMOE). RIS has been examined extensively and the Korean Government has given the school the education license to operate an international school.
